Game and arcade site stats Whether your just starting your site or have been running it for some time you will or have found how important your website stats can be to running your site.
A stats program will give you alot of information about your web site, it will tell you how much traffic you are recieving, how many visitors, how many unique visits and returning visitors. It will also tell you where your visitors are coming from, what websites referred them to you, what search engines they used to find you and what words they used to search.
Use you use this information to track any advertising you are running for your site, if you place an ad and your traffic increases you will see how well the ad is doing. Also you can see how well your links are working on other sites.
Also if you plan on selling your site down the road, having your stats handy may increase the value of your site.
There are basically 3 ways you can get the stats for your website, below is the list,
Cpanel Stats
First is through your webhosting Cpanel, if your hosting provider has provided you with a cpanel to manage your website then log into your cpanel and look for the Logs catagory, in there you will see some stats programs listed, most common are Webalizer, AwStats, and Analog.
Click on any of these to see your current stats, out of the three I find that I like the bar graphs of Webalizer but AwStats seems to have more information. The only drawback to using these stats is that you have to log into the cpanel of each site to see that stats for that site.
Statistic Scripts
There are several scripts that you can get either for free or for a price that you can install onto your server and it will track your stats.Below are a few that I found that are or may be worth a try.
One of the best and FREE statistical programs I have found and used was one called phpmyvisites, This script was real easy to install and gives alot of information on your website stats. Whats nicer yet is that you can install this on just one of your websites and track the stats of all of your sites by simply adding a small code on all of the pages on each site. Please Read - When I first installed this some time ago the installation went off flawlessly, I just tryed to reinstall it and nothing but problems, after reviewing the forums I see alot of people also had the same problems, I tried the remedy a couple times that they offered and like others it still didn't work. One other common problem with this based on the forums and past experience is that this program has some memory issues and requires a large amount of memory to run after a couple weeks. I had problems with this previously but it wasn't until reading the forums that this came back. - you can try to use it, some people seem to be not having any problems.
Statistic Services
Another way of getting stats for your site is by using the services of another website, these websites offer you their services usually for free and for a small monthly fee you can upgrade your account and get better stat tracking. These services usually offer a thing you can add to your site which will show the amount of hits or visitors to your site. Below are a few of these services.
If you look at the footer (bottom) of this page you will see a ### Visitors since June 9th 2008, this is a free service offered by www.sitemeter.com and actually works really well, clicking on that will take you to a page with the basic statistics displayed. This one doesn't slow your site loading down.
