Find and register your domain name Finding a good un-registered domain name on your own can be challenging but fun as well, there are a few ways to do this, get a pen and paper and get ready for some fun.
First you have to decide on what type of game site you would like to run - the most common is a general game site that offers a variety of games for all users. There are also Dollmaker and kids type of game sites, more niche type sites for things like puzzles, sudoku, crossword etc..., also other niche sites may include racing or nascar, barbie, sonic, car games, card games, poker, and so on - the list goes on and on. Once you decide on the type of site you want then next start by writing down possible names of game sites to use. For our purposes we will use a generic type of game site for our examples. My name is Rick so I'll start by trying RicksGames.Com - I typed the name into my web browser and found that it is actually taken and forwarded to a company that sells darts and supplies.
So next we have to either work off of our first guess or try different names. working off of our first guess we could try RicksOnlineGames.Com which points to a parked page. RicksFlashGames.com finally shows up as no site found. Now to double check and register the name, I strongly recommend using a company called GoDaddy.Com
for registering and managing your domain names.
I went to Godaddy.com and did a search for the domain name and as you can see above the name is available to register - next I would register the name or look for another name. If the name was taken they also provide some other names you can try that somewhat is close to what you have chosen, see the picture below,
Next step is finding good reliable web hosting for your site.
